Tank Level Indicators The Continuous Liquid Level Sensors of GEMS are an ideal complement to the WEKA Magnetic Level Indicator bypass-program as they are used when the external mounting of a by-pass indicator is not feasible. Completely electronic, they provide sophisticated, remote tank gauging. All XM sensors work on the voltage divider. Voltage output between 0V and the supply voltage is proportional to the liquid level. The XT versions operate as the XM but have an integrated 4-20mA signal converter.

Operating Principle The level sensing unit is vertically mounted in the tank and cable-connected to a remote receiver. A voltage divider extends over the full distance within the sealed transmitter stem, with magnetic reed switches tapped in at regular intervals. As the float moves with liquid level, it magnetically closes a series of reed switches in sequence, thus varying the tapped-off portion of the divider voltage. .

Voltage Divider Ensures Consistent Accuracy GEMS voltage divider uses a staggered series of reed switches and resistors tapped in a 2-3-2 sequence which produces a voltage signal which is directly proportional to liquid level and assures high repeatability. Since voltage drops are read by the meter for each distance of float travel between the reeds, any inaccuracy is limited to that distance plus meter and other circuit tolerances.

Float Technology Advantage 1 GEMS TLI’s take advantage of the proven highly reliable float technology that provides extremely accurate liquid level sensing under almost all operating conditions. Floats follow true liquid surface, rather than extrapolate results from indirect indications such as pressure or echoes. They operate flawlessly in tanks with curved walls or other shapes without clear vertical access, where other liquid level technologies may be unable to function. .

Advantage 2 Floats feature the unique capability to monitor liquid interface levels in virtually any tank size or shape. Anywhere liquids with differing densities (> 0.1) are contained together (oil and water, for exam-ple), GEMS float type sensors keep operators aware of their interface level position.
